Shannon Chaplo, a Lake Geneva native majoring in psychology and gender and women’s studies, is the fourth recipient of the prestigious Bascom Hill Society scholarship. She plans to go to graduate school in clinical psychology after her May 2010 graduation.
Whether she works in the classroom or clinic, Chaplo hopes to find ways to close the confidence gap between boys and girls. She also wants to improve body image and prevent eating disorders that affect girls and women. One of her professors calls Chaplo, “one of the two most brilliant undergraduates I’ve had.”
Chaplo also is vice president of Psi Chi, volunteers at a crisis center for homeless teens and is director of the Memorial Union Alternative Breaks Program. She and her best friend established a summer art camp in Lake Geneva to provide an affordable way for children to explore their creativity.
