New Campus Perk: Alumni Park

Thanks to more than 4,000 donors and friends, the UW–Madison campus now boasts a unique jewel on the lakefront between Memorial Union and the Red Gym. Alumni Park adds to the beauty and magic of the campus for students, alumni, faculty, and visitors alike.

The 1.3-acre green space is complemented by a visitor center, One Alumni Place; and the Goodspeed Family Pier. The park, which opened in October 2017, includes more than 50 museum-quality exhibits that honor 120 exceptional UW alumni and pay homage to university innovations and traditions. Many of the exhibits light up to make the park as appealing at night as it is during the day.

The new campus destination also includes an outdoor classroom; 7,877 trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials; and a bronze sculpture of UW mascot Bucky Badger titled Well Red that has become a favorite spot for campus photos and selfies.

Alumni Park and the One Alumni Place visitor center provide beautiful, new venues to host WFAA and UW–Madison programs and events such as festivals, arts and cultural events, lectures, and workshops. As of April 30, the park and One Alumni Place had logged upward of 60,000 visits; more than 60 programs, events, and guided tours; and three awards for landscaping and construction.
