Conger Sisters’ Gift to School of Nursing

Conger Sisters

Here, the Health Sciences Learning Center is seen behind Ruth’s daughter, Ingrid Olson, and aunts Sarah Schrader and Katinka Stout. Ingrid carries on the family tradition as a registered nurse, certified in hospice and palliative care.

Three of the four Conger sisters from Kohler, Wisconsin, came to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study nursing. The late Ruth (’47 ZC, ’49 BS NURS), and Katinka (’53 ZC NURS) and Sarah (’54 ZC NURS) Conger lived in the Nurses Dormitory, where they built enduring connections to their profession and fellow nurses.

In honor of this special place on campus and in their lives, Katinka and Sarah have made gifts to the new Nursing Sciences Center. A graduate student room bearing the Conger name will carry on the memory of Wisconsin as a special place for nurses.
