In June, the UW School of Human Ecology (SoHE) hosted a group of nine students from historically Black college and university partner institutions, offering an introductory immersion experience for graduate-level education called the Equity & Justice Network Summer Institute. This outstanding cohort was selected to spend five days at the university, meeting with SoHE faculty, graduate students, and academic leaders and participating in talks, tours, and workshops. The Summer Institute was established to illustrate academic options for traditionally underrepresented students, so they can see all that’s made possible by pursuing a graduate degree.
“We are grateful to our generous donors who fund our Summer Institute and help advance our diversity, equity, and inclusion goal,” says Dean Soyeon Shim. “We could not take these steps forward without their vision and investment.”
