Bridging the Divide Between Science and Application

Charles Raison is one of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s best and brightest. Officially, he holds the position of Mary Sue and Mike Shannon Chair for Healthy Minds, Children & Families. In practice, he is a master of connecting ideas, research, and practice, leading the way in novel treatments for treating mental conditions.

More simply put, Dr. Raison bridges the divide between science and application by studying our own bodies’ strengths and capabilities to prevent and treat depression and anxiety. He has also worked to examine the physical and behavioral effects of compassion training.

A faculty member in Human Development & Family Studies as well as Psychiatry, he receives funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine and Centers for Disease Control. He is also the mental health expert for CNN.com.

A renowned teacher and scientist like Dr. Raison could go anywhere in the United States. He chose the School of Human Ecology at UW-Madison because it allows him to be immersed in one of the most vibrant research communities in the world. Dr. Raison presents students with the newest and most exciting ideas and discoveries in the fields of human behavior and psychology, and he enjoys a connection to resources and ideas that few other campuses could afford.
