Every two years, leaders at UW–Madison look to the state for an investment that will help the university remain successful and serve the people of Wisconsin. In his recently introduced budget proposal, Governor Tony Evers ’73, MA’76, PhD’86 included $856 million to maintain and strengthen the collective Universities of Wisconsin. For the 2025–27 fiscal years, these resources would be used to ensure that Wisconsin’s ranking in financial support for higher education is elevated from 43rd to 25th in the nation.

“You can’t run a top organization in today’s world without a talented workforce,” says Amy Bogost ’83, president of the UW System Board of Regents. “If we want to truly live up to the Wisconsin Idea, we have to be prepared to keep educating our students for the economy of the future.”

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin thanked Governor Evers for recognizing the impact that UW–Madison has across the state, and Universities of Wisconsin president Jay Rothman says the investment will help ensure a brighter future. Now, the UW needs you to reach out to the governor and members of the Wisconsin legislature to ask for their support.
