The Importance of Annual Giving
As the economic landscape has shifted, your annual gifts are vital to sustain the university’s core mission – creating and sharing knowledge and providing the best educational experience possible for students. Your support helps recruit and retain inspiring educators and researchers who secure more than $1 billion each year in grants, making the UW–Madison one of the top research universities in the country.
A time each year alumni and friends move the UW forward
For the past 167 years, UW-Madison has advanced the boundaries of possible through dedication to teaching, research, and outreach. Now there’s an opportunity in front of all of us — to chart a path for the next 167 years and beyond. When you contribute to the Annual Campaign, gifts go toward providing student aid, improving the academic experience, and advancing research breakthroughs.
Together, we can make a difference and help the UW remain a world-class institution.
“Look Forward” Student Campaign
Student giving has been an important part of UW history since the building of Memorial Union in 1928. That tradition is carried on with the Look Forward campaign, a campaign designed to provide seniors with the opportunity to make a gift to the UW unit they care most about as they graduate from the university. This year the campaign priority is raising money for the Wisconsin Idea Scholarship—a scholarship started in 2012 by students, for students.
The Class of 2015 has already surpassed alumni giving participation with a 14 percent participation rate. These young alumni have shown that they value their alma mater and understand the importance of giving.
The 1848 Society celebrates the generous alumni, parents, and friends who consistently support high-priority annual funds at UW–Madison. Gifts to these discretionary funds help maintain the tradition of excellence for which the UW is known.
A leadership level gift of $1,000 per year (that’s just $84 a month!) to one of the UW’s annual funds qualifies you to participate in the 1848 Society. Annual funds allow campus leaders to quickly invest in opportunities that serve our core mission of education, research, and outreach. Faculty retention and recruitment, student financial assistance, and life-changing research help sustain a university that Badgers deserve.
