Professor Plummer joined the faculty of UW-Madison in 1991 and maintains joint appointments in the departments of Afro-American Studies and History. She served on the U.S. Department of State, Historical Advisory Committee (2001-2005), has edited an anthology, “Window on Freedom: Race, Civil Rights, and Foreign Affairs” and authored the book “Rising Wind: Black Americans and U.S. Foreign Affairs, 1935-1960,” winning several literary and historical prizes. Professor Plummer holds a bachelor’s degree from Antioch College, a master’s from Columbia University and a doctorate from Cornell University.

Her presentation will offer a unique perspective on the Cold War, how it both helped and hurt the civil rights movement in the United States.
