The Importance of Annual Giving

As the economic landscape has shifted, your annual gifts are vital to sustain the university’s core mission – creating and sharing knowledge and providing the best educational experience possible for students. Your support helps recruit and retain inspiring educators and researchers who secure more than $1 billion each year in grants, making the UW–Madison one of the top research universities in the country.

A legacy of keeping UW-Madison strong

The moment you first set foot on Bascom Hill, you followed in the footsteps of Badgers dedicated to making a difference. Now it’s your turn to lead. Give to the UW’s Annual Campaign. Your gift will go toward university research, student scholarships, faculty retention and recruiting, and so much more.

Your gift, along with gifts from other Badger alumni, helps to give current students and future generations the chance to share in the Wisconsin Experience.

I Gave

“I Gave” Student Campaign

Student giving has been an important part of UW history since the building of Memorial Union in 1928. That tradition is carried on with the I Gave campaign, a campaign designed to provide seniors with the opportunity to make a gift to the UW unit they care most about as they graduate from the university.

The Class of 2013 has already surpassed alumni giving participation with a 13 percent participation rate. These young alumni have shown that they value their alma mater and understand the importance of giving.

1848 Society

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s most generous annual fund donors are recognized by the 1848 Society. Gifts to the UW’s Annual Funds help preserve the margin of academic excellence that the UW is known for.

Annual Funds support faculty retention and recruitment, student financial assistance, the development of innovative programs, and life-changing research.

A gift of $84 per month to one of the UW Annual Funds qualifies a donor to be in the 1848 Society. Membership in the 1848 Society includes an annual Wisconsin Alumni Association membership.
