A Legacy and a Future of Compassion

Sarah Meiners faced more challenges than the average freshman — her father passed away just six weeks before the start of her first semester. A first-generation college student, Meiners chose to honor her father’s memory by embracing his dedication to universal respect and compassion. Her commitment to helping others led her to PIH-Engage, the UW–Madison student chapter of Partners in Health. PIH-Engage was founded on the belief that health is a human right, which resonated with Meiners as a manifestation of her father’s principles.

Now a member of the PIH-Engage executive board, Meiners’s passion for public health is both an extracurricular focus and a career goal. She is majoring in history and international studies, and plans to study abroad and conduct field experience as part of the Wisconsin International Scholars Program. After graduation, Meiners hopes to work in public health and help others increase their access to healthcare. Scholarship support will lessen the burden on Meiners and her family, allowing her to pursue her passions with less concern for financial consequence. With your help, we can continue to support outstanding students like Sarah who embody the Wisconsin Idea.
