Wisconsin Energy Institute

Wisconsin Energy InstituteCreated in 2006, the Wisconsin Energy Institute (WEI) is an international center of excellence in clean energy research, education and outreach. With more than 100 affiliated faculty from numerous disciplines, we are connecting, collaborating and coordinating our efforts to solve the world’s energy problems. In early 2013, WEI will move into a new, state-of-the-art facility that will bring scientists and students working in energy-related fields under one roof.

Your opportunity to support: Today, we ask you to join our efforts. Your support can help us accelerate WEI’s progress in research, education and outreach by investing in the people, facilities, programs and ideas that lead to innovative energy solutions.

Laboratory and facility modernization and expansion:

Phase II of the WEI facility has received university and state approval for construction. Your support can help us fund or equip this critical facility and strengthen WEI’s ability to make the discoveries needed to build a new energy economy. In many cases, the space needed to support this discovery to product portfolio in is not currently available on the UW-Madison campus. Thus, completion of WEI Phase II will provide facilities needed to enable advancements in areas such as energy storage, distribution, and integrated energy systems. In addition, a public symposium center and additional industry incubator space is being planned within Phase II to accelerate industry partnerships aimed at growing the economy.

Undergraduate and graduate student support:

Your investment will help inspire our next generation of scientists through a variety of ways:

  • Internships
  • Technology competitions
  • Graduate project assistantships
  • Scholarships

Public engagement and education:

  • Programs designed to bring energy-related topics to the classroom
  • Workshops and events to increase energy literacy and understanding
