Working with the Communications Team

The best way to get in touch with the communications team is through the development director assigned to your school, college or program. Team members are happy to consult and work with you to create any print or electronic project that includes a donor component.

What do I need to know to begin a project?

If you know these things, we can help you choose the best ways to achieve your goals:

  • objectives (what do you want to accomplish)
  • requirements (including time frame)
  • audience (who do you want to reach and why)

How much do projects cost?

We tailor projects to fit your budget.

  • Services provided in-house, including writing, print design and Web design, are provided at no cost as a service to campus partners (when resources are available to work on projects).
  • Services provided by outside vendors, such as printing, photography or design, will be billed to you.
  • We will suggest options to fit your budget.

How do I set a budget?

We will do the legwork to find cost estimates for everything from mailing and printing to photography.

How do I pay for a project?

We will work with you to determine which of your funds any costs should be charged to.

How does the Foundation announce gifts?

We write press releases and sometimes schedule news conferences in response to major gifts. Managing editor Chris Dupré distributes information through University Communications.

Why can’t my department announce its own gift?

The Foundation writers may have background information about donors that would not be available on campus. We are sensitive to donors’ needs as well as department benefits from each gift. We consider press releases part of our stewardship process that will encourage future gifts.

Is the Foundation also involved in campus communications?

Yes. We provide an annual University Relations Grant that pays for a variety of on-campus programs, including Writers-in-Residence, On Wisconsin, University Communications and school/college communication and public relations staff.
